My Letter to SFO regarding Parking at International Terminal

leave a comment »

Saturday evening (10-20-2007), 13 motorcycles arrived at SFO ridden by members of the Patriot Guard Riders to meet two US soldiers returning from Iraq (one of whom had been injured).

While greeting and saying farewell to other soldiers has never been a problem (due to motorcycle friendly parking in the main parking lot), this experience was anything but acceptable.

The first problem we encountered was ticket dispensers at the garage entrance that do not recognize motorcycles. This was aggravated by the signs indicating such an requiring us to call for an attendant because the attendants apparently have zero training regarding what to do.

After eventually being admitted “without tickets” we rode to the top floor where crammed up-to four motorcycles into each spot so as not to be inconsiderate of others.

After greeting our returning heroes, we proceeded to the garage exit to pay. There we discovered un-trained cashiers who not only charged us $9 per bike (ignoring the “per-stall” rule on their signs), but took about 15 minutes just to figure out what to do, all the time on the phone to a supervisor who was not interested in customer service. I will also mention that during this time, the exit to the entire garage was blocked by all this confusion and not only caused a safety hazard, but also inconvenienced many other patrons of this garage.

When the contract for International Parking comes up for renewal, please remember that motorcycles are increasingly using your facilities and that these situations are not tolerable.

Thank You
